Who are we?

Who are we? Each of us on Team Potter grew up competing in a sport that many people are just now beginning to hear about: curling. It's a sport of strategy, strength, skill and camaraderie. In the fall and winter months we spend much of our time practicing and competing in bonspiels both in the USA and internationally; and in the off-season, we train and prepare ourselves for the competitive season. We are currently training for the 2014 Olympic Trials. Follow this blog to check in on our competitive season.

"Tournament of Hearts" music video

I know you will enjoy watching this music video. It's by a band called The Weakerthans and the title of the song is "Tournament of Hearts." I love the old curling footage they use in this video. "Hurry, hurry hard!"

Note: The video is shot at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg :)

Hey I just found this picture on the internet, and I thought it was cute! I am still having trouble trying to get my profile picture! Did it take forever to upload?

Summer cold

Blah! I still can't seem to shake this summer cold I have. This morning, while on the bus, I had a coughing fit where I coughed so much I brought on tears! I am pretty sure everyone on that bus moved at least another foot away from me. I felt so sorry for the lady sitting next to me because she had to endure my hacking. Oh I hate being sick! Thank goodness I had my trusty Halls in my purse, or else I'd probably still be coughing.

San Diego!

Ry and I are back from San Diego, and we had a great time! I gained back a half pound from all of the wonderful food but am still ahead of the track I put myself on. According to the pedometer on my phone, I put on about 2-3 times as many steps as I normally do, and Ry and I spent about an hour running in the pool one morning (not as easy as I thought it would be). We did a ton of things, including parasailing! What an awesome experience! I would recommend it to anyone, even if you're a little afraid of heights!

Week 1, Day 1 of the new program

I started the new training program last night and it was quite a workout! Did it take anyone else 3 hours to complete? Either I did too much or I spent too much time looking at the sheets in between exercises. I have a feeling I will be sore by the end of the day.

Brazil vs. USA

It was just announced that Brazil will be challenging the USA men for the other American spot in the Worlds this year. A competition in January 2009 against the Brazil team will be a best of 5 to see which country's men's team will be represented at the Worlds. How will the U.S. decide who plays Brazil? That would be fun to watch. Hopefully it will be in the Midwest. That's exciting that curling is expanding now into southern countries.

Bad Ideas

I don't know at what point I thought this would be a good plan, but I was very wrong. This past weekend, we had a wedding Friday night, another one Saturday night, and a baptism on Sunday. So, I figured that I needed to make sure I worked out Friday night. So Ryan and I went to the gym for about an hour, then headed to volleyball where we played three games, then went to the wedding and danced for a few hours. So moving Saturday morning was not an option, but not to worry. I was a dancing machine by the time of the second wedding. Then I did the legs DVD on Sunday night. Not a bad idea at the time until I decided to go for another hour workout less than 18 hours later. Sitting at my desk this morning, my butt it screaming at me. Team Jitt all the way! That's okay... Walks on the beach every morning in San Diego should help that! We're flying out tomorrow morning, and I am very ready for a vacation that doesn't involve ice!

Tuesday blahs

It's raining here in Minneapolis and I don't think it's going to clear up anytime soon. I haven't heard anything yet regarding funding and it's so hard to wait because lots of planning needs to be done soon. It seems everything is at a stand-still and it's only Tuesday. Do any of you have big plans for this week or weekend? I am going to a wedding up north, which should be relaxing because Cor and I are only guests at this one, and not part of the wedding party. Other than that, just trying to keep up with my workouts. It's been tougher to find time on the weekends because they are so busy for me, but I've found that if I make it a priority, I can get it done.

Girls Weekend

Todd is headed to his hometown for a bachelor party and golfing so Ava & I are chillin' out together in the vineyard.  Hopefully we'll get to go for a ride on her pony, Copper.  Oh, and working out, of course!  Here's a video of what time with Ava is like.

Yay for the weekend!

I am sooo pumped for this weekend! I am going to see the Dave Matthews Band in Alpine Valley and it should be fun. Anybody else have big plans for the weekend? I worked out last night and found a perfect place to do step-ups at the school playground so now the muscles around my knees feel a little tight. I must be doing something right :) Hope you all have a great weekend!

Diet rants and raves

So, I'm really starting to feel good about my fitness routine. But I do need to start eating better. I just started to journal my diet and am noticing that there isn't much variety in what I eat. I have a bagel with cream cheese every morning and lunch is usually whatever I grab before heading out the door to work. But there is one thing that I absolutely cannot part with and that is chocolate. Dark chocolate is fantastic!

Charlie on a rampage, shoes, and the Olympics

Charlie chewed up the shoelaces of my running shoes the other day, so maybe that was a hint that I need to shop for some new shoes. I think I am overdue anyways. These Sauconys look nice and so do these. And while I'm looking, this red and white jacket is way cool! But I shouldn't be looking since I don't have the budget for it.

So, anybody else excited for the opening ceremonies this weekend? I can't wait to see all the athletes. One of my favorites to watch is diving because I could never, ever have the guts to do what they do and yet they make it look so easy.

My weekend

Wow! So I worked out last Thursday, day 2 of legs, and then spent the weekend at a wedding and if I could recommend a great way to work out, it would be dancing for 6 hours! My legs and core muscles are all worn out. Tonight I'm doing arms. I haven't seen the copies of the DVDs that Dex has burned for us, so hopefully we will be getting those soon! They sound really good!

Hips

Hey, if you want to strengthen and keep your hip flexors strong watch the Legs, Legs, Legs DVD.  Use the mini bands and they will really help.  Thought this might be worth while for you, Jamie, (I sure felt it this morning).
